Summary:
In October 1991, the City of Lexington entered into a Ground Lease Agreement with Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc. to begin the Lexington Head Start Program on City property located at 300 West Ninth Avenue. Over 33 years of partnering with Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency for this childcare opportunity at a City-owned facility.
Dione Adkins-Tate, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director with Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc., has requested a one-year renewal lease for the period beginning October 1, 2026, and terminating on September 30, 2027 for the facility located at 300 West 9th Avenue, across from Lexington Skate and BMX Park. The property would be subject to a lease amount of $1.00 per year. The Head Start program is a federally-financed program designed to prepare four-year olds with economic and emotional disadvantages for kindergarten.
City Attorney Stephen Holton has reviewed the Ground Lease Agreement for adoption by City Council as an attachment to the proposed Resolution.
