Summary:
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 through October 15, in honor of Hispanic cultural contributions. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. September 15 is significant because of its anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Subsequently, Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, 18 and 21, respectively
The City of Lexington looks forward to celebrating National Hispanic Month to highlight the rich heritage, vibrant traditions, histories, food, and music of people.
