Summary:
North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) requested the Electric Department install 12 streetlights at their new roundabout being constructed on Old US Highway 64 East. The attached map provides better detail for State Project HILC-50838. Once installation is completed, NCDOT will receive a monthly utility bill same as all other utility customers on our system. The attached Encroachment / Controlled Access Agreement was required before construction could begin at the roundabout. The agreement was authorized by City of Lexington on August 10, 2026. With this encroachment agreement, Electric operations will be granted right-of-way for their infrastructure to provide and install the street lighting in this area.
In addition to the encroachment agreement, NCDOT has agreed to reimburse the Electric Department for the directional drilling/boring portion of the installation of the 12 streetlights, as this cost is outside the normal installation provided to our customers for street and security lighting. The attached signed letter represents NCDOT's intent to reimburse the City these directional drilling costs, as well as their agreement to the attached Encroachment / Controlled Access Agreement for State Project HILC-50838 with the City of Lexington.
